Attractive and Clever Uses of Youtube Channel Design

Submitted by on

Youtube, founded in 2005, has taken the internet by storm, it receives hundreds of millions of hits and streams five billion videos per month. With this success it has grown to be the 4th largest website on the internet in only 5 years.

Needless to say Youtube has many talented and dedicated users who utilize their creativity and enthusiasm to draw in hundreds of thousands, and sometimes millions of views. By attracting so many hits these Youtubers have managed to turn their once passed time videos into a profitable part time or even full time job.

Channel design is one of those simple things a Youtuber can do to set themselves apart from the copious amounts of other run-of-the-mill users on the site. And with Youtube's new channel redesign, personalization of channels has become even easier.

The following are a few good examples of attractive and well put together designs for youtube channels.

1. ijustine

Justine is a very popular Youtube vlogger and comedian. Her videos consist of either music video spoofs or her ruthless obsession with Apple products.
Her channel's design is colorful and professional, even the snapshot of her on the left side looks professional and crisp, as well as expertly integrated into the layout.

2. MysteryGuitarMan

MysteryGuitarMan makes random music videos using common household items as well as musical instruments. His editing also adds to his already unique videos.
His channel showcases really attractive vector art as well as clear navigation to all his other networks.

3. vlogvetica

Vlogvetica is a group vlogging channel. A few select Youtube users and friends got together to create what they call vlogvetica, "like Helvetica, only better". Each person takes turns vlogging about their day or they issue a challenge to the other vloggers on the channel, to be completed in their next video.
This design is by far my favorite. It's incredibly pretty, the colors, the sky inspired background, and of course the font choice. Helvetica is a very popular font among designers, and it's used very well in this design.

4. ShaneDawsonTV

Shane Dawson is one of the most successful Youtubers there is. He receives millions of views for his skits and comic parodies.
The design is actually pretty odd but it definitely suits Shane's online persona and does a good job of showing his networking sites while also being fun and creative.

5. WHATTHEBUCKSHOW

Michael Buckley is a Youtube celebrity who talks about real life celebrities. (Often making fun of them.) He also has a vlog channel, peron75, which was actually the original channel for WHATTHEBUCKSHOW. Michael has been featured on different news channels and magazines since he is known as one of the few Youtubers who manages to bring in a 6 figure income from using Youtube.
The design is pretty simple but effective. The photos of Michael are crisp and professional and displayed very well. His networks are a nice touch too.

6. TheCreativeOne

The CreativeOne is a tech nerd who loves doing reviews on different bits and pieces of technology. Especially Apple products.
His design is rather basic, and simple but it's nice to know that a design as simple as this one is still effective.

7. CTFxC

CTFxC or Charles Trippy FriendxCore is a vlogging channel. Charle's job, along with his fiance Alli, is basically to make daily video logs about their everyday lives. Each day's video can get as many as 250,000 vids by the end of a month.
The design of the channel is so cute. It features vector art of Charles and Alli as well as their dogs Zoey and Marley. The background is a cheerful bright color, which gives the channel that completes the friendly and cute look.

8. AndrewBravener

Andrew is another Youtube vlogger. He isn't one of the most viewd users on Youtube but that didn't stop him from putting effort into making is channel look professional and attractive. The colors and the celestial background are wonderful. The crisp white font also ads to the simplistic elegance of this layout.

9. livealivelive

Mitchell is one of the Vlogvetica vloggers. This is his own personal channel. This channel is extremely simple. But the colors and font choice make this design beatiful and refreshing.

10. Vanawesome

Vanawesome's vids are rather random, and are pretty funny. He does them over whatever suits his fancy.
The design looks well put together and professional with bright colors and cute vectors.

11. Old Spice

Old Spice is one of the few corporate companies that has taken advantage of youtube. It is a free place where you can put your television ads and still get a reasonable amount of views.
The design for this one was obviously done by a professional. It definitely fits Old Spice's identity.

12. U2

U2 has jumped on the bandwagon when it comes to bands using different networking and social sites to generate new audiences and sales.
The design is simple but suits U2 and their image.

13. DoritosCanada

Viral videos are very popular, and one of the most common videos on Youtube. Doritos has decided to use these types of videos as a type of marketing campaign.
The design of this channel is bright, abstract, and fun.

14. Pyrobooby

Pyrobooby is a new sensation on Youtube making many hilarious spoofs and parodies. With CommunityChanel inspiredediting, he has grown in popularity extremely quickly.
The design is great and definitely points you in the right direction, toward his merchandise~

Now, there are many fabulous designs on Youtube, these are just the few that I thought were successful and clever.

One note on the article, all of the channels listed are YouTube Partners, so many of the design ideas shown are not available to standard YouTube members' channels page designs. I'd like to see even a plain, no link map header available to all users, that'd be nice. I started creating a background with a seperate header file as all the example channels have - although the header jpeg has some odd coding that photoshop doesn't understand, perhaps having to do with the link mapping? Anyhow, couldn't get to the header customization I read about online, a few further searches led me to the answer - "You can't unless your account has YouTube Partner status."
and there it is. You let me know if I'm wrong on any points. thanks.
